The RAM 1500 is one of the most iconic trucks in the U.S., and it’s not hard to see why! The flagship of the RAM lineup of pickup trucks boasts powerhouse performance specs, a rugged design, and advanced features inside and out. If you’ve just bought or leased a new RAM 1500 in the Boaz area, you might be wondering about things like engine oil, fuel, coolant, and more. It’s important to know what type of materials to put in your RAM so it keeps running in top condition – and putting in the wrong fluid can cause unnecessary damage to your truck. Luckily, the team at CDJR of Albertville has put together a guide outlining the RAM 1500 oil type along with a few other essential fluids and the basic service calendar, so you can have an all-in-one resource detailing the most essential maintenance for your truck. Read on, then check out our other service tips and tricks!

RAM 1500 Oil Type, Fuel Selection, & More

All Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, and RAM vehicles run on genuine Mopar parts and accessories, including engine coolant and oil filters. When getting your spark plugs, oil filter, and coolant changed at regularly-scheduled maintenance visits, it’s important that your service team only use Mopar parts, since they’re specifically designed for your pickup truck.

The type of engine oil you use depends on what kind of engine you have in your RAM 1500. If you have a pickup with a 3.6L or 5.7L engine, you should use API Certified SAE 5W-20 engine oil. If your truck runs on the 6.4L engine, you should use Pennzoil UltraTM 0W-40 engine oil.

The type of fuel you put in your truck also varies depending on your engine, but it also changes depending on your transmission. The 3.6L engine requires 87 Octane, the 5.7L engine with Automatic Transmission requires 89 Octane, and the 6.4L engine or 5.7L engine with Manual Transmission requires 91 Octane or higher.

RAM 1500 Maintenance Schedule

Getting your oil changed regularly is one of the most important parts of properly maintaining your RAM 1500. Fortunately, your truck will alert you when it’s time for an oil change, so you don’t have to remember mileage or time intervals. Your driving habits and conditions around Guntersville and beyond will affect how long you go between oil changes.

When you get your oil changed, your service team will also change your oil filter, inspect your battery, rotate your tires, inspect the exhaust system, inspect the cooling system, and inspect the brakes. As you drive your truck more and more, a service technician will perform other pieces of essential maintenance like replacing your cabin air filter, replacing your spark plugs, changing the transmission fluid, and adjusting the brakes.
